Britain’s Great Mall of China – Nearby Hotel teaches staff Mandarin to cope with Chinese Tourists

A posh shopping mall is proving such a hit with Chinese tourists that a nearby hotel is training staff to speak Mandarin. Chinese visitors make up half of the six million people a year who flock to quaint Bicester Village.

The designer shop retail park, near Bicester, Oxfordshire, is second only to Buckingham Palace as the tourist attraction most visited by the Chinese. And now a Travelodge hotel has enrolled Oxford University tutor Katy Wang to teach staff welcoming phrases in the language — as well as Chinese
etiquette.

Katy said: “It’s great that Travelodge acknowledges the value of going Chinese friendly.”
